The Bay Celebrates the 50th Birthday of Barbie® - The Original Fashion Icon
Toronto, ON - March 16th, 2009 – The Bay announces Queen Street as the first Barbie® lifestyle retail store in Canada targeted to women in time for the worldwide celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Barbie®. The Barbie™ Signature Shop at the Bay will be a two month long celebration and will include: traffic-stopping store windows along Queen St. and Bay St.; and 1,350 square feet of adult apparel, dolls, accessories, jewelry and more. The retail celebration begins on Monday, March 16th in store at the Bay, Queen St, coinciding with the first ever Barbie™ by David Dixon fashion show at LG Fashion Week’s opening night.
“For many girls, Barbie® is the first introduction to glamour and fashion. She truly is a larger than life fashion icon,” said Bonnie Brooks, CEO, the Bay. “The Bay is excited to introduce the Barbie™ Signature Shop to downtown Toronto to help celebrate Barbie’s 50th anniversary!”

Barbie® doll’s pink panache will be spotlighted in show-stopping displays and select merchandise in the Bay, Queen Street flagship store including:
• Barbie™ Signature Shop at the Bay – A lifestyle experience shop featuring fun Barbie™ decor and customized fixtures will be a beacon of fashion and fun for today’s trend-setting stylista; at this exclusive Barbie™ shop in a prime location on the main floor, women of all ages can find Barbie™ branded t-shirts, exclusive jewelry designs, accessories, a limited edition Assouline coffee table book , Barbie Collectible dolls and more
• Window Shopping for the Barbie® Look – Three windows will be creatively styled out with fun backdrops featuring iconic Barbie® herself. Life-sized Rootstein Barbie™ mannequins will be dressed in Barbie™ by David Dixon hot off the runway looks, following his fashion show on March 16th
• Straight from the Barbie™ Fashion Show – Immediately following the first-ever Barbie™ runway show at LG Fashion Week, several of the Barbie™ by David Dixon ready-to-wear outfits will come to the Bay to be displayed in the Barbie® Signature Shop on the main floor and will also be available to purchase in Fall 2009
• A Fashion Salute to Barbie® - The Barbie™ Signature Shop at the Bay will be flanked by 12 of the most fashionable dolls, including Barbie designed by Diane Von Furstenberg, Burberry, Armani and select Barbies designed by Bob Mackie
• Barbie’s Dream House - Classic, traditional, sophisticated and modern - Glenn Dixon has created a romantic and whimsical furniture line for Barbie’s 50th birthday. Exhibited exclusively at the Bay, the line includes chairs, cushions, ottomans and Barbie’s Barbie Vintage Settee
• Barbie Story Booth – Barbie lovers will have a chance to record their very own Barbie story for a limited time from March 17 – 20th.

As well as the opening of the adult focused shop, the Bay, Queen St. will be hosting Barbie’s birthday celebrations on Saturday, March 21st, 2009 for girls which will include a Barbie inspired lunch at the Arcadian Court with cupcakes, candy floss, pink popcorn, and girl related activities.
