Hudson’s Bay Company celebrates the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games with support for Sydney young athletes and 2010 Olympic hopefuls

August 20, 2009 (Sydney, NS):  Hundreds of Hudson’s Bay Company customers, associates and friends showed their Olympic Spirit today at a community BBQ to celebrate the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Held at The Bay (Mayflower Shopping Centre), the afternoon included a cheque presentation of $2010 to the Sydney Minor Hockey Association, and guests had the opportunity to meet Canadian National Figure Skating Pairs Team Meagan Duhamel and Craig Buntin.

“Hudson’s Bay Company is proud to be a Premier National Partner of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and we’re committed to supporting Canada’s amateur athletes. It’s an honour to be able to share that with the Sydney Minor Hockey Association and I hope the young athletes watching Meagan and Craig will be inspired to strive for their own Olympic gold,” said Lisa Hanrahan, Store Manager, the Bay.
Today’s event included a pick up street hockey game with the Vancouver 2010 mascots, free giveaways and the opportunity to enter to win a package to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Hudson’s Bay Company is hosting similar community celebrations across the country this summer to help generate Olympic Spirit and offer Canadians the opportunity to meet our 2010 hopefuls.

“I’m ranked 2nd in Canada and 6th in the world in my sport, but I still work a full-time job. It takes a lot of financial commitment to reach and excel at an elite level, and the support of companies like Hudson’s Bay Company can really help make a difference in my training, equipment and travel,” said Duhamel.
“In 2007, my skating partner of five years retired, but with the Olympic Games just three years away, I didn't want to give up. I have found an amazing new partner in Meagan and we’ve set our goals high,” said Buntin. “Every dollar of support from partners like Hudson’s Bay Company goes toward coaching, ice bills, music, choreographers and costumes – getting us that much closer to the podium in 2010.”

Hudson’s Bay Company is a Premier National Partner and the General Retail Merchant of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. In partnership with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), the company is designing and manufacturing the official uniforms for the Games-time workforce; it will also be outfitting the athletes, in both Vancouver and Whistler, with quality apparel to make the athletes comfortable in 2010.
