Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF)
Established in 1986, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is the leading national volunteer-based organization in Canada dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. The Foundation works collaboratively to fund, support and advocate for:
- relevant and innovative research
- meaningful education and awareness programs
- early diagnosis and effective treatment
- positive quality of life for those living with breast cancer
As Canada’s national retail leader in corporate social responsibility and community investment, Hbc supports the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation each October, with its integrated Think Pink™ program.
Once again, in 2006, Hbc proudly developed the Think Pink™ marketing programs for its Bay, Zellers and Home Outfitters stores that resulted in a record contribution to the Foundation of over $400,000. Hbc customers were able to donate their Hbc Reward Points to the Foundation, or purchase a special edition pink Hbc heritage blanket or the signature Think Pink™ reversible toque. The Hbc Think Pink™ boutiques not only featured Hbc signature products, but they also showcased pink product from Hbc’s vendors and corporate partners aligned with the Foundation helping ensure the greatest possible awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Hbc continues to commit resources to ensure that future Think Pink™ programs grow and raise much needed funds for breast cancer research programs supported by CBCF.
In addition, Hbc Reward Points donated by customers in the province of Quebec benefit the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.

Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF)
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common, fatal lung disease affecting young Canadians. CF is a multi-organ disease affecting primarily the lungs and digestive system.
The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation works to provide hope and longer, healthier lives for children through its research and clinical programs. If we all work together, we can help them find a cure or an effective control for this devastating disease.
For more than 20 years, Hbc's partnership with the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been a driving force engaging our associates to raise approximately $25 million to support the Foundation's world class research and care programs. Since 1961, when the Foundation first began its research and clinical care program, the median survival age of CF individuals rose from 4 years old during that period to the late 30’s of today.
We are proud to be making a difference in the lives of Canadian families living with this devastating disease. In light of this, the Hbc Foundation will continue to support the Foundation as one of our national charitable partners through the Shinerama campaign, the Great Strides(tm) walk, fundraising sales, and various other initiatives. The Hbc has made a commitment to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and will remain one of their largest corporate supporters.

Canadian Women’s Foundation
The Canadian Women’s Foundation (CWF) is Canada’s first and only national public foundation dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through economic and social change.
Domestic violence is a leading cause of injury to women in Canada. With help from the Hbc Foundation, the Canadian Women's Foundation has provided grants to over 570 charitable organizations, such as shelters and sexual assault centres. To learn more about the CWF’s important programs, visit www.cdnwomen.org.
Hbc’s partnership with the CWF has two components:
- National: Hbc has established the “Hbc Violence Prevention Fund” at the Canadian Women’s Foundation. Since 2001, Hbc has donated more than $1.2 million to support violence prevention work across the country. The money has been used to make grants to local shelters for abused women, sexual assault centres, and other organizations working to prevent violence.
Hbc is also proud to provide the CWF with translation for its quarterly newsletter.
- Community Donation: Hbc has worked closely with the Canadian Women’s Foundation to match each Bay, Zellers and Home Outfitters store with a women’s shelter in its community. In 2006, Hbc stores donated over $228,000 to shelters from coast to coast, and provided over $207,000 in Hbc gift cards. Stores are also encouraged to get to know their local women’s shelter to provide meeting space, or other opportunities for the shelter to fundraise or raise awareness of its services on-site.
Kids that Click
Safe Kids Canada and Hbc are working together to provide the Kids that Click program to help parents and caregivers buy and use car seats and booster seats safely. Car crashes kill more Canadian children than any other cause of injury. The good news is that car seats and booster seats help protect against serious injuries and death by up to 70 per cent.
Launched nationally, on April 12, 2005, the Kids that Click program provides education materials at the point of purchase in Zellers and Bay stores, and from Safe Kids Canada, to help parents select the right kind of seat for their children. Choosing the right stage of car seat and using it correctly can be a challenging task. One of the goal’s of this program is to make the decision process easier when it is needed most – right in the store.
Through this partnership, the Kids that Click program will provide parents with educational brochures, as well as in-store assistance to retail associates who have fundamental knowledge of child passenger safety. A DVD demonstrating correct use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts will be available in 2007. In addition, parents and caregivers can submit their questions about child passenger safety to Safe Kids Canada at 1-888-SAFE-TIPS and at: www.safekidscanada.ca
