Hudson's Bay Company - Social Responsibility - Hbc History Foundation - Funding Criteria

N.B. Since all available funding for 2009 has been awarded the Foundation is not entertaining any new applications.

Eligible projects should relate to Hudson's Bay Company's history. Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate the strongest connections to Hbc in one or more of the following areas.

  • Retailing
  • Fur Trade (including 20th century)
  • Hbc's other businesses, e.g. wholesale, immigration, energy, shipping, Inuit art
  • Programs or curriculum devoted to the teaching Hbc history to students

The following are NOT eligible for funding from HbcHF:

  • Groups not registered as charitable organizations with Revenue Canada
  • Capital projects, such as construction, renovations or building acquisition
  • Acquisition of archives, artefacts or any other cultural material
  • Groups organized outside of Canada
  • Individual pursuits (individuals looking for money for personal projects, e.g. travel), unless they are authors or film-makers seeking support for research and/or publication/production. In such cases clear evidence of prior publication or interest on the part of a publisher/network may be required.
  • Third party organizations (e.g. local schools looking to raise funds for a charity)
  • Private schools
  • Advocacy groups for a particular religious, social, political or economic point of view

N.B. Previous support is neither a guarantee of nor a barrier to future support

Application deadlines each year are:

  • March 15
  • October 15

Successful applicants will be notified within 2 months of the application deadline.
