Mandate

The Hudson’s Bay Company History Foundation (HbcHF) is a private charitable foundation controlled by Hudson’s Bay Company. Hbc established the Foundation to advance knowledge of, and interest in, Hbc’s role in Canadian history through financial assistance to qualified recipients. The majority of HbcHF’s annual funding is committed to the substantial financial support of:

  • The Hudson’s Bay Company Archives collection, located at the Manitoba Archives in Winnipeg
  • The Hudson’s Bay Company Artifact collection located at the Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg
  • Canada’s National History Society, publisher of The Beaver magazine, a not-for-profit organization whose objective is the promotion of greater interest in Canadian history

HbcHF annually donates any available surplus funds to other projects historical value, which relate to Hudson’s Bay Company’s history across Canada. Applications are reviewed and awards made twice a year in April and November.

HbcHF also administers the Hbc Local History Grant Program, which provides grants up to $1,000 to assist with local history programs.
