Last Dog Train Leaving Lower Fort Garry, 1909 by Charles Comfort, 1927 |
Since its founding in 1670, Hudson's Bay Company has amassed an impressive corporate art collection. Consisting predominantly of Canadian works, the collection includes portraits from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, historical calendar paintings, Inuit prints and sculpture. The collection's rich history makes it unique among corporate art collections in Canada.
Although not currently acquiring new art, Hbc is making great efforts to exhibit some of the finest works from the Company's art collection to the public. For example the Hudson's Bay Company Gallery - Victoria displays seven paintings from Hbc's calendar series as well as two of our historical portraits. In addition Hbc loans selected works to galleries and museums for temporary exhibitions.
