Hbc Gallery - Montreal. Voyageur diorama |
The Hudson's Bay Company Gallery - Montreal presents exhibits that explore the history of the Company in Canada and, in particular, the role Montreal played in that history. The exhibit is themed around three main topics:
- The Life of a Voyageur: Immerse yourself in the world of a fur trade brigade at one of its stopovers along the river. The centerpiece for this zone is a half-size canot du maître built using traditional methods.
- The Fur Trade: This area explores the Company's role in the fur trade. Visitors can try their skills at grading fur through a series of hands-on activities which illustrate the daily duties of the trader.
- The Department Store: This zone houses a re-creation of Montreal's Morgan's department store circa 1896. It lets visitors experience what shopping was like over a century ago.
The Gallery lobby also displays a large-scale interactive map of Canada and accompanying video, especially designed to introduce the visitor to the 300 plus years of Hbc history.
